RE: TC Mileage - how is good is yours?

Jumbo Jet, I noticed in your first picture that the trucks were different - one a SRW and the other a DRW. Are the campers the same? Is there any difference in their rides or MPG? Are the trucks weights the same or close? Frank

RE: My silly project

When I owned a sewing store in Colorado Springs there was a guy who came in and bought a sewing machine to make his own kites. He traveled allover the southwest for competitions. And did well too, he said. I wasn't aware that kite fliers also had contests. I guess everyone has something that's different. Frank

RE: Winter travel to Alaska

When I drove the AlCan, I was "tracked" by the Canadians with a CB. They may not do it any more. But when they did, they knew the drive time between each location and expected you to arrive at a certain time. If you did not check in they looked for you. It was an effective and cheap way to keep you safe. I hope they still do but I don't know. Frank

RE: Called CIPA about

But when the mirrors stick out from the sides about 9" or more into the airstream, I don't know of any deflectors for pickup trucks that deflects air that far away from the SIDE of the truck! Over the hood yes, but not to the sides. Frank

RE: What Would You Do

Actually there ARE males calicoes. They are normally born infertile. There was a time and may still be when UCLA was looking for FERTILE male Calico cats for studies. The genes that cause hemophilia are the same that cause male infertility in male Calico cats. They thought if they could fine out what cause the males calicoes to be infertile they may also find out what cause hemophilia. Yours may "hiss and howl" at the one outside but once inside that may stop as they find out about each other. Be sure to have a good vet check done BEFORE you bring it into the home. Frank

RE: Called CIPA about

I don't believe that one. The airflow is past the mirrors even without the air deflectors. I had CIPAs and just tightened them down and the vibration was not noticeable. You mat want to put a piece of foam in behind the add-on mirrors to dampen any vibes. Frank

RE: Putting my 5th wheel on jack stands for the winter

I had my 2003 Alfa parked and stored for 2 1/2 years until last September. We took it out after I checked out the fridge, A/C and electric stuff and it rolled fine with no heating of the axles. Park like you would normally and don't worry about it. Just pull the battery out and keep it up to snuff with a trickle charger. Frank

RE: SR-71

Someone mentioned the XB-70. THAT was an amazing airplane as well. When it was parked, the cockpit was 40 feet above the ground. The wings drooped and it was faster than anything anyone had then. I used to watch it fly across the southern deserts with chase planes and then it was able to break the sound barrier. It was an awesome sound when it did. The only planes that could keep up with it then was the F-104 and the B-58. I was sorry to see that program stop. The Sr-71 was the "little brother" and certainly did well. Frank

RE: Bank of America - RANT

Maybe I am missing something. Is the new rate on the card BALANCE or just on NEW add ons? I don't think they can raise the rate on an existing balance but only on what you add AFTER the rate change. Am I wrong? Since I don't carry credit card payments I don't know. Also if you tell the other two banks that you are canceling the accounts, you are then seen as a risk by other banks since YOU didn't feel you could handle the other credit cards. You are caught in a "Catch 22" with them. You just can't win! That was on NBC news the other night. Frank

RE: Dog Breed good for Family & Camping?

I traveled a lot of years with Wire Hair Fox Terriers. But as was said earlier, it make no difference what dog you bring. It is how you brought them up and how they act. Any dog regardless of size can be a real pain if you haven't taken time to train them for travel. Frank

RE: Winter travel to Alaska

I have driven to Alaska in the dead of winter. Bring sunglasses. The road gets very bright when the sun is out. You will hardly ever be more then 3 or 4 hours from someone or something. The Canadian authorities track you pretty well when you travel in the winter. If they don't hear from you regularly they start checking to be sure you are okay. Driving sometimes is better then than in the summer since the rocks and other loose items are now frozen to the ground. Have a great trip. Frank
